Leaving Tuscany and the sunflowers…..

Went for a fifty minute walk this morning trying to take my last minute photos of the area. There are fields and fields of sunflowers. Some are normal size say around four to six inches in diameter, but the big ones are incredible at nearly twelve inches. They are just past their season so all their heads are looking at the ground. It appears their kids are still awake though!

I play golf and in Australia early in the morning, I sometimes see kangaroos but here this morning I saw deer! That was different.

It’s really hard to describe how beautiful it was in Tuscany. A town atop each hill and patchwork fields of all kinds such as olive groves and vineyards adorning the slopes. I met some very lovely people with whom I spent the week. I learnt skills that will have to be practiced and been privileged to have made new friends to the extent that I’ve had many invitations and I will try to factor these into future holidays.

The new challenge is to get to my next destination. We were transported down to the train station in an absolutely chock-a-block van. Purchased our tickets then found our way to our various platforms after tearful farewells. I was lucky enough to sit opposite a lovely lady and we spoke until we had to change. I’ve befriended her on fb and she just happens to be an opera singer. Wow. Talk about an artistic holiday.

My next challenge when we get to Rome termini is to buy my ticket for the airport because my airbnb host (for the night I hadn’t counted on) is coming to pick me up from there.

Hopefully I’ve got it sussed now. I managed to purchase a ticket for the airport but asked a very unhelpful train person who sent me the wrong way. Then I was told the correct platform and had to run again with my (what I’d thought was a really well packed and limited)REALLY heavy suitcase. Thank goodness there was a very nice young man who assisted me both on and off the train (previously) and the airport train was same level as the platform. And once again I’d forgotten to validate my ticket. Just avoided a hefty penalty by about two mins!
