Up sort of earlyish and on our way back to Newcastle Upon Tyne. Some brilliant scenery on the way. I never get bored with the rolling hills or the quaint cottages or the magnificent manor houses. Then you have the majestic wind farms, the ancient art of the stone walls, the beautiful animals and the seascapes, how can you want for more? Honestly if you want breathtaking scenery you should drive the length and breadth of Britain and you could not possibly be disappointed.
It reached around midday and we had always planned to go to Seahouses for the fish and chips. As usual it was simply the most delicious fish and chips I’ve ever tasted! Totally full of gluten but there are times when the intake of gluten just HAS to be made!
Completing our journey to Newcastle by around two gave me enough time to go around to the Pound Shop where I purchased seven yes SEVEN pairs of magnifiers. Seriously the pound shop should come to Australia! Ok. I know the $2.00 shop is there but this just seems to be different.
This afternoon I have been invited to go to my first premier league match in England. Newcastle v Brighton. We called into a pub to have our pre-drinks then walked up the hill to the stadium. The gate this evening was over 43,000 which apparently was 10,000 down on the usual crowd. The game kicked off and sadly for the majority of fans (Newcastle) the team displayed a lack of enthusiasm for most of the game. Towards the end though there were three replacements and things hotted up! Unfortunately the end result was a nil nil draw but the atmosphere was electric once the game came alive. I just loved the atmosphere and the energy shown by the committed fans.
Once it was over we walked back to the local pub and I have to tell you that I only wished I’d had a ‘go-pro’ attached to me somewhere so I could have record the sights I beheld on the way!! Priceless!
We arrived At ‘the local’ and were to have a few drinks with the extended family of my hosts. I’m blessed to be included in such a lovely group. I think I had a little too much but it was a great day and I don’t think I’ve enjoyed myself so much for a long time.
Tomorrow is my last day in England before I head off to Northern Ireland, so I’ll see how that goes. Meanwhile goodnight folks. I’m off to sleep 💤
