Day one – onto the cruise ship

Breakfast was up the road this morning. We found a nice little shop that did desayuno (breakfast) it was quite leisurely because although we’d booked out of Hostal Apolo they very kindly secured our bags until we were going to go to the Ship.

Moving along we came to a clothes shop called Humana. Some really good clothes and best of all they were recycled!

We were just killing time really. Two hours before we needed to head for the port. The smells of fruit and vegetables greeted my nostrils. You may not believe that but honestly it’s true. The shop was quite amazing. We just couldn’t stop staring. There was another guy just standing there staring too. I’ve simply never seen such an array of beautifully displayed perfect fruit and vegetables. NO marks or bruises – extraordinary!

I was going to take Christine’s photo in front but the guy offered to take both of us. He then asked us to take his and his family. We chatted to them for a short while. They too were going on a cruise.

We crossed the main road and commenced making our way back to the Hostal. I noticed a strange window decoration. I still don’t know what it is/was but it looked like pieces of tree or plants? Maybe the roots? Anyway it was very unusual and striking. We may go back there actually as it’s a Japanese restaurant called Ikibana.

Moving on again, we ended up finding a place for a drink and an ice cream. For a while I was impressed with the quantity of scotch the waiter poured but when the bill came I thought €11 for one drink ($22) was a bit rich. It was also a little annoying as he seemed to adopt the taxi drivers option of self tipping until I went and asked for the change!

The guy at the reception of the Hostal was super nice and we had our photo taken with him. Down to the street and found a taxi. What a coincidence as Danny was driving the taxi behind the one we took.

As usual booking into the cruise was a veritable cinch. Yay we were ON. A welcome glass of orange juice and a little while later we were opening the door of room 10104. A balcony room. Spectacular. A short while after we were settling in we had to attend a safety demonstration in the theatre. They’re annoying but necessary. We didn’t have long before the buffet closed so we whizzed up to grab a bite to eat. Later we did a little reconnoiter then back to the room to finish unpacking.

We’ve chosen to attend the 6:30 meal so we made our way there. Christine had Pork loin with tuna sauce and I had potato and lentil soup for starters. We both ordered prime rib for main and ice cream for dessert. A bottle of beringer rose was our choice to accompany the meal. The food-well we will hold our opinion for now

Went to the show and then to bed – it had been a big day.

Our waiter is called Yudha and he told us Terimakasi is thank you in Indonesian.
