The Roman leg…..

Once again the doorknob menu came into play this morning but this time the knock on the door was a bit of a surprise, I guess we weren’t quite ready to wake up yet.

OMG. I’ve woken up today with eighty year olds wrinkles around my eyes!!!! The free treatment I had yesterday has damaged my skin. I could cry. Hopefully the new cactus oil will help make them better soon.

We’d decided to go into Civitavecchia for a while when we had decided not to do an excursion into Rome itself.

Caught the free shuttle bus to the end of the pier and walked into the town past the fort.

We were looking for a taxi so we could do a bit of a tour but they were so elusive we barely saw one. The ones we did see wouldn’t stop as they were already busy.

Never mind we decided to have lunch before heading back to the ship. Turns out to be the nicest meal we have had since beginning the cruise.

A really lovely restaurant right on the front called MAA. A beautifully appointed venue and meals to match. The main meal was delicious and desserts were to ‘die for’. Anyone going to Civitavecchia simply MUST go there!

We returned to the ship by the bus and once again did the long walk into the ship. A lot of people disembarked today and more arrived.

Came back to the cabin and I mostly finished packing suitcase (the Marie Kondo method) whilst Christine caught 40winks. Down to settle on the photos which almost made us late for dinner.

Ah that’s right you want to hear about the food – don’t you!!??

Well amazingly enough both entrees and mains were actually nice and also quite edible. My dessert was safe (ice cream and fruit salad) but then there was Christine’s tarte tan which was apple atop a sponge disc. Um……sour, inedible and revolting are the only words I will allow you to hear from these lips.

Come on you say!!? Well, it’s not just US!! We have asked others about the food and more than one of the staff members say it’s the same for them. In fact one staff member said she’s lost weight!

The Scottish couple we met the other night concur. It’s so disappointing when everything else has been great.

After dinner we caught up with the dutchies again for a nightcap and also saw the Scottish couple too.

Tomorrow is another day and actually the last day of our cruise so we are a little dejected tonight, despite having drunk a full bottle of red at lunch and had more alcohol tonight at dinner.

It’s Genoa tomorrow…..
