A day in Genoa…..

We had the alarm set for 7:30 but just after the alarm went off there was an announcement (by mr gobbledygook) to say we had been delayed due to an emergency through the night and our arrival had been delayed by three hours. Not sure of the implications of this message on tours etc but guess we will find out shortly.

Nevertheless breakfast with the dutchies had been arranged. This completed, we headed off to the pigale lounge and received our #10 sticker to put on, now that the excursion was back on.

We were about to follow our leader with the #10 paddle but this guy near us almost had a conniption because he thought we were jumping the queue. I said there is no queue (it was just a wave of people with #10 stickers). He got really stroppy. OMG. I wanted to slap him stupid.

Around one million steps later down stairwells and pathways to the uscita (exit) we found that we weren’t going on an hours bus ride anymore but directly on the local cruiser.

Genoa’s port.

The Italian riviera never fails to impress. Glorious weather and many views of the coastline.

One and a half hours to get to Portofino and we disembarked with the hundred or so other visitors.

I whizzed up the hill to take pics of the church and the castle whilst the others looked around the shops, then had an ice cream.

When I arrived back down Christine very kindly purchased a gold plated ice cream for me. Who ever heard of an ice cream costing €14.00????? That’s around $25 Australian!!

Don’t bother unless you have LOTS of money!

The hour was up and all aboard for the 1.5 hrs back to the ship. At one stage Marijke thought that some children were going to invade our area so we suggested she laid down on the seats pretending to be ill. She’s hilarious!!

She also wanted to get in the queue quickly to leave the boat and dragged Christine forward with her walking stick and told everyone ‘disable Person coming through’. Of course that meant that her three carers need to accompany her! Haha. We were a touch late but the ship waited for us. Phew.

Straight into dinner. Once again we gazed in wonder at the menu description- sometimes it even sounds good enough to eat. Tonight was no exception. The soups are pretty well always nice (bonus). But Christine’s turkey could have heeled and toed my leather shoes. My chicken ( can you call a thinly flattened piece of white meat – chicken breast, that had been described as roasted?

The broccoli tasted like fish and the carrots tasted or smelled (I don’t know as once again I’d lost the will to live.)like washing liquid.

I’d asked Christine to order a dessert from the normal menu which I know I shouldn’t have had but it was actually nice.

All the Beringer Rose was finished tonight so that’s it folks nothing left to complain about!

We gave our tips to the waiters and headed out for the show.

After the final announcements by the gobbledygook guy we had our nightcaps with the dutchies and the scots. Two super nice couples to have met on our travels. Exchanges of emails will enable us to keep in contact.

Back to the cabin to finalise the cases and put them in the hallway to be taken away for disembarkment in Barcelona tomorrow.

Nighty night all …..
