RETURN OF THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

Day 20 – 26th August – Bunratty Castle

Just a hop, skip, and a jump from where we were staying stood the Castle—majestic and inviting. We’d had a slow, easy morning before wandering over, drawn in by the promise of history and charm. Outside, a cheerful young woman was serving up surprisingly good coffees and chai lattes from a little caravan. She couldn’t have been more obliging.

We made our way to the entrance, pleasantly surprised to find the admission fee lower than expected. And honestly, it was worth every cent. The grounds were stunning, with photo ops around every corner and enough circular stairwells to count as a full workout. The place was steeped in history, and we soaked up every bit of it.

After hours of exploring, we crossed the road to check out some local eateries. I treated myself to a chocolate brownie and another chai latte—decent enough. The others went for chips with curry sauce, chips with nacho sauce (a curious choice), and some homemade sausage rolls that were… let’s say, open to interpretation.

Later, we returned to Pub #1 for a drink. I’ve got to say, I really don’t like diet anything, and Ireland seems to have a bit of a struggle when it comes to offering the full-sugar versions of Coke or lemonade. A quick kip back at the lodgings gave us just enough energy to head out again for our 5:45 dinner reservation—timed perfectly to catch the football. Celtic’s playing tonight, so the pub should be buzzing.

Many nice meals and several drinks later, we made our way home. Both the Skelly boys were very disappointed because Celtic didn’t win tonight. (We watched it at the Pub) home and bed. 10,503 steps.
